Acrylic Display Case Brands Compared: Pioneer, Better Display Cases and Carney

Single-car covers by the carton, custom-fit cabinets by the scale, or big multi-car cases. Three makers compared on what each publishes, minimums included.

These three makers are not competing for the same purchase. One sells single-car covers by the carton, one sells custom-fit cabinets by the scale, and one sells large multi-car cases. Choosing the wrong category costs more than choosing the wrong brand.

Every figure below is from each maker's own site, checked on 21 September 2026. Disclosure: we make display cases too - a lit single-car wall case - which is a fourth category again.

One currency caveat: the Better Display Cases page served to us in a Canadian region setting, so treat that price as the figure shown rather than a confirmed USD number.

How to choose

You want to cover a lot of loose cars individually

Pioneer's per-item price is the lowest here by a wide margin - $1.78 a case - but the minimum is a carton of 132. That is excellent value for a club, a dealer or a very large collection, and pointless if you want six.

You want one cabinet that fits a specific scale

Better Display Cases is built around that, with shelved cases per scale and wall-mount or table-top options. Note the trade-off it states plainly: custom-fit items cannot be returned for incorrect sizing, so measuring is on you. Our method is in the display case size guide.

You want a hundred cars behind one front

Carney's 108- and 144-car 1/64 cases are the category for that, and they compare well against buying a hundred individual covers - the reasoning is in best wall displays for Hot Wheels.

You want one car to be the centrepiece

None of the three is really aimed at that. A lit single-car case is its own category, which is the one we build - Infinity Garage, specifications on the specs page.

What to check before buying any acrylic case

  • Internal dimensions, never the outer box. Pioneer publishes inner dimensions, which is the useful number - what size is a 1:64 diecast car.
  • Whether UV is stated. "Clear acrylic" is not a UV claim; only one of these three makes one.
  • The minimum order. A low per-item price attached to a carton of 132 is not a low price.
  • How it is cleaned. Acrylic scratches and crazes easily, and cleaning damage is the most common way these cases go cloudy - keeping an acrylic case from yellowing.
  • Glass versus acrylic for your situation - acrylic vs glass.

FAQ

What is the cheapest acrylic display case for 1:64 cars?

Pioneer Plastics publishes the lowest per-item figure of these three at $1.78 per case for its 164C-6PK, but they are sold by the carton of 132 with freight included, so the entry cost is $234.96 or more.

Which display case brand fits 1:64 scale?

Pioneer lists 1/64 cases with inner dimensions of 3.5 x 1.75 x 1.625 inches, and Carney sells 108- and 144-car 1/64 cases. Better Display Cases lists its shelved diecast cases in 1:18, 1:24 and 1:32.

Do acrylic display cases block UV?

Only if the maker says so. Of these three, only Better Display Cases states UV protection on the product page; clear acrylic on its own is not a UV claim.

Is a custom-fit case worth it?

It fits better and usually looks better, but the risk moves to you: Better Display Cases states that custom-fit items cannot be returned for incorrect sizing, so measure the item and compare against interior dimensions before ordering.

Are multi-car cases better value than individual covers?

For large loose collections, usually yes on both cost and dust protection. Individual covers make more sense when cars are handled or rearranged often, or when only a few pieces need protecting.
