Diecast Display Case With a Key Hook

Last updated: October 2026.

A diecast display case with a key hook is a wall-mounted case that holds one 1:64 car and has a hook underneath for keys. The combination sounds like a gimmick and is not: it solves the single biggest problem with display cases, which is that they get put somewhere nobody walks past. A case that also catches keys earns a place by the front door, so a car that would otherwise sit in a spare room gets seen twice a day.

Why the hook position matters more than the hook

Keys must hang below the display chamber. A hook on the side or the front of a case puts a set of keys directly in the sightline of the model, which cancels out the reason for buying a display case at all. Underside mounting keeps the two functions physically separated: the car is framed, the keys are out of frame.

The second consideration is depth. Keys swing. A case with a shallow base and a hook close to the wall means keys knock against the case every time they are hung. Enough clearance below the base solves it.

What to check before buying one

  • Internal chamber size, not outer box. A standard 1:64 car is about 68 × 28 mm and long models run to roughly 75 mm. The listed size on most cases is the outside; the walls, base and frame eat into it.
  • Mounting method. Adhesive pads are fine for a case that is only looked at. A case that gets keys hung on it every day is being loaded and unloaded constantly, so screws with wall anchors are the stronger choice on painted or uneven walls.
  • How the light activates. A switch by a front door gets forgotten. Always-on is glare and wasted power. Motion activation with a short auto-off is the version people keep using.
  • UV. The spec that protects the car rather than showing it. UV yellows white plastic and fades printed liveries over months. Ask whether the lighting is stated UV-free.
  • Power. A cable running to a case by the front door is the fastest way to make it look like an appliance. A built-in rechargeable battery avoids it.

The KP Design Infinity Garage

The Infinity Garage is built to this brief: a wall-mounted infinity-mirror chamber for one 1:64 diecast car, with a key hook on the wall plate below the case.

  • Internal chamber 120 × 75 × 65 mm, fits 1:64 up to 100 mm
  • 4000K COB LED at 90+ CRI, UV-free certified
  • Motion sensor tuned to wake when you walk up, about 20 seconds then auto-off
  • 650 mAh built-in battery, USB-C rechargeable, roughly two weeks per charge at around ten triggers a day
  • Mounts with the included 3M pad on smooth walls, or two screws and anchors through the wall plate on painted or uneven walls

Current published figures live on the specification sheet. Setup and mounting steps are on the Infinity Garage help page.

Common questions

What is a diecast display case with a key hook?

A wall-mounted case holding a single 1:64 diecast car, with a hook built into its underside for house or car keys. The point is placement: a case that also catches keys earns a spot by the front door.

Why does the key hook need to be underneath?

So keys never cross in front of the car. A hook on the side or front puts keys in the model's sightline, which defeats the purpose of a display case.

How much weight can the key hook hold?

That depends on the mounting, not the hook. Adhesive pads suit smooth walls; two screws with wall anchors are the stronger option and the right one for a hook used daily.

What size car fits?

The Infinity Garage chamber is 120 × 75 × 65 mm and takes any standard 1:64 car (~68 × 28 mm) up to 100 mm long. Compare against the internal chamber, never the outer box.

Does the light stay on all the time?

No. A motion sensor lights it when you walk up and it switches off after about 20 seconds — the correct behaviour for a case by a door.

Will the light damage the car?

Visible light will not; UV will. UV yellows white plastic and fades tampos over months. The Infinity Garage LED is UV-free certified, 4000K at 90+ CRI.
