Infinity Garage — Setup, Mounting & Light Help

Everything KP Design has published about mounting, lighting, charging and caring for the Infinity Garage. Answers first, in the order people actually ask them. Mounting

How is the Infinity Garage meant to be mounted?

It is a wall-mounted display. The design intent is that it goes on the wall by the door you actually leave through, so it is used every day rather than admired once a week. The key hook is built into the underside of the case, which is why the case wants to sit at roughly eye level with clear space beneath it.

What hardware does it mount with, and how much weight will the key hook take?

We have not published this. The supplied fixing method, the unit weight, and a load rating for the key hook are not currently listed on our specification sheet. Rather than publish a number we have not measured, please email support@keypitdesign.com and we will confirm the figures for the revision you have.

Where should it go on the wall?

Two things drive the placement. First, the key hook is underneath, so leave hanging clearance below the case. Second, the light is motion-triggered with a 2 m range — see below — so mount it somewhere you pass within two metres of, not at the far end of a hallway.

The light and the sensor

Why does the light turn itself off after a few seconds?

That is correct behaviour, not a fault. The Infinity Garage switches off automatically after about 20 seconds. There is no switch to remember and no always-on glare, and the auto-off is a large part of why the battery lasts as long as it does between charges.

Why doesn't it light up when I walk past?

Check distance and angle against the published sensor spec: a 120° radar sensor with a 2 m range. Two common causes:

  • Too far away. Beyond about 2 m the sensor will not trigger. Walking past the end of a room is outside its range by design.
  • Outside the cone. The sensor covers 120°, not a full circle. Approaching from hard alongside the wall can put you outside the detection cone even when you are close.

If you are within 2 m, approaching from the front, and it still does not trigger, charge it first — a flat battery presents exactly like a dead sensor. If it still does not light after charging, email support@keypitdesign.com.

Will the light damage or fade my car?

No. The Infinity Garage LED is UV-free certified. UV is the part of the spectrum that permanently yellows white plastic and fades printed tampos, so a UV-free light source is the specification that actually protects the model over years of display. This is the spec worth checking on any lit case you buy, and the one cheap cases rarely state.

Why do my white and silver cars look right in this case but wrong in others?

Colour temperature and colour rendering. The Infinity Garage uses a TrueColor™ COB LED at 4000K (neutral white) with 90+ CRI. Warm or low-CRI LEDs push white paint toward cream and silver toward beige. At 4000K and 90+ CRI, white reads as white and silver as silver — you see the paint you actually paid for.

Power and charging

How do I charge it?

Over USB-C. The battery is a 650 mAh cell built into the unit; there is nothing to remove or replace.

Does it have to stay plugged in?

No — and this is the point of the built-in battery. The Infinity Garage runs for weeks per charge, so there is no cable running across your wall or desk. When it does need charging, unplug it again afterwards.

How long does a full charge take, and exactly how many hours does it run?

We have not published charge time or a rated runtime in hours. "Weeks per charge" is the figure we stand behind, because real runtime depends entirely on how often the sensor is triggered. If you need a precise number for your use case, email support@keypitdesign.com.

Fit, keys and the mirror

Can I hang my car keys on it?

Yes. A key hook is built into the underside of the case. It is the reason the Infinity Garage is a wall piece rather than a shelf piece: the car is on display and the keys live on it, so the case earns its place by the door instead of becoming another thing to dust.

What size car fits?

Any standard 1:64 car, including models with a tall wing. The internal chamber dimensions and the maximum car length are listed on the full specification sheet — always compare your car against the internal chamber, never the outer box size. The mirror is scratched. Can I replace it?

Yes. The chamber uses custom shatterproof beam-splitter acrylic — the component that creates genuine receding depth rather than the shallow, muddy tunnel plain mirrored plastic produces. Replacements are sold as 2× spare infinity mirrors.

Is the nameplate real metal?

Yes — 304 stainless steel, not printed plastic. It is the part you touch and see closest, which is why it is not a sticker.
